From the Executive Director
|
In 2023, through a partnership with Assemblymember Daniele Monroe-Moreno, the Nevada Legislature approved a one-time appropriation of $32.2 million to establish the Nevada Supportive Housing Development Fund within the Nevada Housing Division. This initial investment marked a historic step toward addressing Nevada’s shortage of supportive housing and expanding housing opportunities for individuals experiencing or at risk of homelessness.
During the previous legislative session, under the continued leadership of Assemblymember Monroe-Moreno, Nevada advanced this effort further with the passage of AB366. This legislation redesignates the Supportive Housing Development Fund as an account within the state general fund, ensuring that resources will not revert at the end of each fiscal year. This structural change secures a more stable, ongoing funding stream for supportive housing programs and guarantees that supportive housing remains a permanent state priority.
|
AB366 also carried an additional appropriation to strengthen the grant program. The Nevada Housing Division reported strong demand, with multiple projects already funded and, in the pipeline, demonstrating both the need and the impact of these investments.
This legislative success represents a huge win for the state of Nevada. By permanently embedding supportive housing within the state’s fiscal framework, Nevada has committed to building sustainable housing solutions that improve community health, reduce homelessness, and create long-term savings across public systems.
If you would like to learn more about the Supportive Housing Development Fund, I invite you join us at our 2025 Nevada Housing Conference. There will be a breakout session on 10/15 dedicated to sharing an update on the fund as well as next steps and key milestones in project management and evaluation. I look forward to seeing you there.

2025 Out of Reach Report Released
|
The National Low Income Housing Coalition (NLIHC) has released Out of Reach, their annual publication highlighting the gulf between the wages people earn and the price of decent rental housing in every state, metropolitan area, and county in the United States.
Ranking #16 across the country, the Fair Market Rent for a two-bedroom apartment in Nevada is $1,713/month. In order to afford this level of rent and utilities, a household must earn $68,507 annually. A minimum wage worker would need to work 110 hours per week to afford this two-bedroom unit or 91 hours per week to afford a one-bedroom at Fair Market Rent.
