As a new school year begins, I want to wish all the parents, caregivers, and students within the Nevada Housing Coalition community a successful year ahead. With classes beginning across Nevada, we know this is a busy season for families. We hope the months ahead are filled with growth, opportunity, and achievement.
This is also an important week for housing policy. Several legislative interim committees are holding their final meetings and work sessions before the 2027 Legislative Session. |

The Joint Interim Standing Committee on Revenue will continue its review of Nevada’s property tax system, while the Nevada Silver Haired Legislative Forum will consider recommendations affecting seniors, including housing affordability, and rent stability. The Joint Interim Standing Committee on Government Affairs will also act on potential proposals involving homelessness coordination, landlord engagement and Nevada’s broader housing response.
These meetings will help shape the policies lawmakers consider in 2027. The Coalition will provide public comment to ensure the perspectives of affordable housing organizations, developers, service providers and the Nevadans we serve are represented in these discussions.
Finally, our 7th Annual Nevada Housing Conference is fast approaching. This year’s conference, themed Beyond the Blueprint, will bring together housing leaders, policymakers, developers, service providers and community partners from across the state. Opportunity Zones 2.0: Community Readiness and Project Development Workshop Date: September 1, 2026
HUD will host a free, full-day workshop focused on Opportunity Zones 2.0 implementation, community readiness, project development, investor engagement, and financing strategies. The in-person event will bring together government, community development, economic development, finance, and other stakeholders.

SWEEP Celebrates 25 Years Dates and locations: Las Vegas: Tuesday, September 1, 6:00–8:00 p.m. Reno: Thursday, September 3, 6:00–8:00 p.m.
The Southwest Energy Efficiency Project is celebrating 25 years of partnership with policymakers, utilities, businesses, advocates, and communities across the Southwest. The anniversary gatherings will recognize the relationships and accomplishments that have advanced practical energy solutions, reduced costs, strengthened resilience, and supported a more reliable and efficient energy future.

5th Annual Nevada Statewide Conference on Addressing Homelessness Date: October 1–2, 2026 Location: Las Vegas City Hall
Nevada Homeless Alliance will host their 5th Annual Statewide Conference on Addressing Homelessness, bringing together partners from across Nevada to connect, learn, and explore strategies for addressing homelessness. Conference registration is currently open.

RHA Partnership Brings New Affordable Housing Funding to Reno |
|
A partnership between Reno Housing Authority, Clearinghouse CDFI, and Wells Fargo has secured $1.8 million to support the development of 57 affordable housing units in Reno. The funding includes $600,000 for Hope Landing, Reno Housing Authority’s 15-unit permanent supportive housing development serving individuals who have experienced chronic homelessness.
The new housing will help expand access to safe, stable homes for lower-income families, seniors, veterans, at-risk youth, people with disabilities, and other Nevadans in need.

Campus for Hope Announces First 27 Service Partners |
|
Campus for Hope has announced 27 local nonprofit partners that will provide services at its planned 22-acre campus in Las Vegas. Construction is expected to begin this fall, with the campus set to open in 2028.
The campus will bring a wide range of services into one coordinated location, including medical and behavioral health care, substance use treatment, workforce development, education, legal aid, and other specialized support. Additional partner organizations are expected to be announced in the coming months.

RHA Plans 42-Unit Affordable Housing Development in Reno |
|
Reno Housing Authority is planning a 42-unit affordable multifamily development on Reno Avenue in Reno. The project would include three two-story residential buildings and a clubhouse, with a mix of 18 one-bedroom and 24 two-bedroom homes.
Rents are planned to be affordable for residents earning up to 60% of the area median income, with some units potentially serving households earning up to 80% AMI. The development would also include accessible units, on-site parking, and shared community space.

City of Las Vegas Redevelopment to Bring More Than 1,000 Homes |
|
Demolition has begun at the former Grant Sawyer State Office Building in Las Vegas, clearing the way for a new residential development of more than 1,000 homes in the Cashman District. The City of Las Vegas selected Lennar to redevelop the property following a competitive process.
The project will transform surplus state property into a new residential community and expand attainable homeownership opportunities in Southern Nevada. Construction is expected to begin after demolition is complete and following the conclusion of the Las Vegas Lights FC 2026 season.
